Sonnie and the Monkey
by Jack Davis |
Later during the first stop, Jeff and Jay formed a conspiracy aimed at the monkey. As matter of payback for being
robbed of his celebrity, Jeff connived and a scheme was hatched. Jeff distracted the monkey as Jay approached from the side. Here,
caught seconds before the thrust of his extended digit toward the butt of Jeff's ire, Jay is seen excitedly displaying his weapon.
Shortly after, the flailing finger caught the chastising chimp between the cheeks.
The monkey's reaction was strange. It smiled knowingly and cooed something about missing the big house.

The second stop was in Lumberton, North Carolina. Michael Jordan's father was killed there. Sonnie felt like driving
but his arms weren't what they use to be.
The monkey volunteered to help but he would need a driving partner. He first thought of Jeff as a co-driver but nixed
the idea after his sensitive nose alerted him to the fact that Jeff smelled like he was on the seventh day of a five-day deodorant
pad. Also, the critter decided he did not like the way Jeff wore his hat.
After much debate and discussion, it was decided: Jay would drive with the monkey. This pleased the varmint and they
took position. As they did so, the simian murmured something about Jay's thumb and of Jay hiding a banana in his pants. In any
case sitting as they did aroused the critter. From this time on, it developed a fondness for Jay that could not be understood by
the rest of the travelers.
